Personal Connection and Insights
Several years ago, I spoke with Mr. Anthony to clarify several ideas that I was confused about. Mr. Anthony was able to use his vast knowledge to assist me. For three decades, he was a leader in the Peer Movement.
A Legacy That Lives On
I had the pleasure of knowing him and discussing various topics. His legacy will live on as long there are people suffering with Mental Illness and struggling to determine their own sense of wellness. Today, there are individuals studying and using William’s Rehabilitation Techniques. Thank you, Mr. Bill Anthony for all of your contributions making society a better place for everyone.
A Lasting Definition of Mental Health Recovery
In 1993, Mr. Anthony gave Mental Health Recovery a long-lasting definition that continues to resonate today. “Recovery is a deeply personal, unique process of changing one’s attitudes, values, feelings, goals, skills and/or roles.” He continued by saying that, “Recovery is a purpose in one’s life as one grows beyond the catastrophic effects of mental illness.” His legacy will live on as long as their people suffering with Mental Health Issues and individuals are studying Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Gratitude for His Contributions
He was smart and spoke with great understanding of subject matter. It was a wonderful pleasure to know him and converse with him. For one, I will treasure his writings, thoughts and exchanges always.
